Board of Directors


John Bizzell | President

John Bizzell is the President of the organization. He is a retired a Realtor, Homebuilder, and Land Developer in Oklahoma. He also served as a pastor in the United Methodist Church from 2008 to 2017.

Currently, he serves on the Board of Directors of Leah’s Hope in Oklahoma City. He was appointed by the Huerfano County Commissioners as a member of a three-member committee for commercial development of the Cuchara Mountain Park, John serves on the Board of Directors of The Salvation Army in Oklahoma.

Mike Moore | Treasurer

Mike is the proprietor of Dodgeton Creek Inn located in the historic village of Cuchara. Mike served in the U.S. Navy in the mid-1960s. After the Navy, Mike was employed for several years by Hyatt House in California before he returned to his home state of Colorado to finish college where he graduated from Colorado University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting.


In the late 1980s, Mike worked at various hotels in Vail, Colorado. He founded Western Intermountain Supply Corporation, a wholesale plumbing and heating company in Vail, Colorado that he sold in 1994 before he moved to Cuchara.

Lois Adams | Secretary

Lois “City Girl” Adams is a founding member of the The Cuchara Foundation. In 1964, Lois received her B.A. in communications and education from the University of Denver. In 1966, she received her M.A. in communication methodology. In 1976, she then finished her M.A. in speech pathology and special education. Finally, in 1989, she finished her Ph.D. in education administration.


Lois has served on the Council for Learning Disabilities as a national and state officer, the Council for Exceptional Children as a state officer, and the Phi Delta Kappa. She has an extensive background in volunteer service.

Bernard Small | Member of the Board of Directors

Bernard is the founder and executive director of the Cuchara Event Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization promoting and presenting live entertainment to the village of Cuchara. He offers subsidized housing to employees of Cuchara businesses in a new facility located in the heart of Cuchara village.


Bernard is also the owner of Creekside Café and Tavern in Cuchara. He has bachelor degrees in Sociology and Education as well as a Colorado Real Estate License.
